Pelota betyr ball på spansk, på Cuba mener man ofte nasjonalsporten baseball når man sier ”pelota”. Vi tar utgangspunkt i et baseball-inspirert ballspill som spilles på gata i Havanna. Det kalles ”cuatro esquinas”(fire hjørner). Det spilles i lag på fire personer, man trenger ikke balltre eller spesielle klær og har ingen dommer. Man bruker en kokt og flådd tennisball og en gatestump eller plass der man kan kritte opp stasjonene. Stil, humor og eleganse er like viktig som poeng. Vi vil ha med noen cubanske spillere, men alle er velkomne til å delta og lære.
Pelota er begynnelsen på et prosjekt hvor vi vil invitere mennesker med ulik bakgrunn og kultur til å delta i en prosess for å utvikle et felles ballspill. Det nye ballspillet baseres på diskusjoner, erfaringer og ideer i forhold til hvordan det er å leve og integreres i et norsk klima og samfunn.
Pelota means ball in Spanish, in Cuba this often means baseball, the national sport. A baseball-inspired game played in the streets of Havana is the starting point for this project. It is called "Cuatro Esquinas" (Four Corners) It is played in teams of four players, no bats or special clothes are required and there is no judge. What is needed is a tennis ball, preferably cooked and skinned and a street or square where you can mark up the stations with a piece of chalk. Style, humor and elegance are as important as the points. We will play with some Cuban players, but everyone is invited to join and learn.
Pelota is the beginning of a project where we will invite people with different background and culture to participate in a process to develop a common ball game. The new game will be based on discussions, experiences and ideas in relation to life and integration in a Norwegian climate and society.
BAR CANDELA y despues pal Bonche (Bar Candela og nachspielet)
Candela betyr ild og brukes i cubansk slang som et kraftuttrykk om noe som er helt fryktelig, eller tvert i mot veldig bra. Bar Candela er et kunstprosjekt som arrangeres i forskjellige barer og kafeer. Hver Bar Candela har et tematisk utgangspunkt. På Månefisken Cafe vil vi ta utgangspunkt i El Bonche –det private nachspielet som var populært på Cuba under den økonomiske krisa på slutten av 1980-årene. Hva slags nachspiel er vi med på idag? Vi forflytter og blander kommunikasjon, informasjon, kunst og populærkultur. Erfaringene fra cubanske immigranter til Europa gir grunntonen i underholdningen. Bar Candela er musikk, film, foto, animasjon og video fra ulike kilder, historisk materiale fra åpne arkiver, kunstvideo og dokumentar, nettkonferanser, performance, og improvisasjon. Bruk baren slik du vil, Bar Candela er ikke en forestilling, men et utested.

Candela means fire and is used in Cuban slang to express things both quite terrible or on the opposite, really good. Bar Candela is an art-project arranged in different bars and cafés. Every Bar Candela has a theme as a starting point. In Månefisken Café, we will start from El Bonche- the private after party popular in Cuba during the economic crisis at the end of the 1980-ties What kind of after party are we joining today? We transport and mix communication, information, art and popular culture. The Experiences of Cuban immigrants to Europe is the basis for the entertainment. Bar Candela is music, film, photo, animation and video from different sources, historical material from open archives, art video and documentary, net-conferencing, performance and improvisation. Use the bar the way you want, Bar candela is not a show but a place to hang out.
